Omaha-area Hy-Vee stores came, saw and conquered Omaha’s First Annual Coffee & Donut Festival in October, where the fried, sugary dough confections met smooth roasted brews – and even some adult beverages.
Hy-Vee’s new fresh fried blueberry streusel donut was voted Best Donut at the event.
Hy-Vee set up a showstopper booth, complete with an 8-foot-by-4-foot wall of donuts to draw attention. Employees handed out more than 2,500 assorted donuts and coupons to use in-store.
“Our donut wall – actually created by my dad – was a very popular photo op for festival attendees,” said Lindsey Grote-Rodgers, digital marketing specialist for the Omaha-area Hy-Vee stores. “It was an awesome event where vendors and attendees had a lot of fun for a great cause.”
Every ticket purchased and dollar spent at the festival helped two local charities: Open Door Mission and The Healing Embrace.
Attendees enjoyed live music while taste-testing, photos with Mr. Donut, jelly donut wrestling, a donut queen contest and, of course, a donut-eating contest.
Prizes were award for best coffee and best donut. One lucky person also won free coffee for a year.
