Hy-Vee Stores Honor 9/11

Several stores across Hy-Vee Land honored and remembered September 11.

In Papillion, Nebraska, a spectacular sight caught the eye of the community with a huge American flag flying in front of Hy-Vee. The store hosted a free breakfast for men and women in uniform, including all types of first responders and their families, on Sunday, September 10. The event also included a ceremony featuring an opening prayer, presentation of colors, singing of the National Anthem and mayoral welcome. Several police chiefs and members of Congress also spoke.

Attendees participated in a moment of silence at 7:46 a.m. to honor the time when the first plane hit the World Trade Center’s North Tower sixteen years ago.

In Perry, Iowa, the Hy-Vee store set up a similar scene to remember 9/11, as well as assist local firefighters. The store collected donations of bottled water all day which were given to the Perry Fire Department for times of need.

“The fire department set up a fire truck hoisting the American flag in our Hy-Vee parking lot to honor our country and to respect those who lost their lives on September 11,” said Larry Vodenik, community involvement coordinator at the Perry Hy-Vee.
