The Papillion, Nebraska, Hy-Vee store brought a smile to hundreds of faces in July. During the company’s annual Million Rose Sale, employees offered customers the chance to purchase a rose for $1, promising that the rose would be distributed as a “Random Act of Kindness” in the Papillion community. Customers purchased 374 roses in one week for the event.
The store gathered the roses and set out to brighten people’s days around town.
“We decided to visit several different parts of the community,” said Mootah Kpebane, manager of perishables at the Papillion Hy-Vee. “The area has been rocked by severe storms lately, and people who serve the community through their work have put in lots of extra hours in the recovery effort. So we focused on people who serve their community through their everyday jobs.”
The store surprised several local community members, distributing roses at the police department, hospitals, nursing homes and the humane society. The effort was featured on the store’s Facebook page.
“We also spread the love to patients at each of the facilities and general community residents we found while out and about,” Kpebane said. “It was so great to see so many smiles!”
